To start this travel I first planned a week on Curacao, just to relax a bit, come to ease, get a little tan... you get the feeling ;)
My dear friends dropped me off at the airport in Amsterdam, we shared a few tears and after that, it all began.. I am on my own now.
What I didn't knew was that a backpack was a ''odd luggage'' which means you don't check it in at the normal counter, but you go from one, to another, and then to another to check the bag in.. okay, learned a new thing that day.
After checking in the backpack I went to my gate and waited for my plane. I couldn't pick a seat at first ( because I, of course, didn't checked in at home ) so I hoped on a good spot with a little more leg space. On my ticket said I didn't, I was in the middle chair. Nice...
When entering the plane I asked the personal when if there was a better seat open, if they please could think of me.. They said yes.
Before the plane took off the guy came to me and said he had a perfect spot for me, for 35 euro. Of course I said yes, and I got a seat at the emergency exit. Sitting down I noticed I needed to share my seat with a women who was a 'bit' bigger then me and was using my seat for a part of her ass... Aah well, at least my legs had enough space.
We took off and the steward asked me if I wanted a screen. Because this was gonna be a low budget travel, and my sweet sister learned me to budget and not to spend money on everything, I declined. I would keep myself busy with my music and my book. ( uuh uuh, at this point in my trip I am not so sure why I said 'no' to a screen which was 10 euro, when I am drinking a glass of wine now for 12 dollar ) aah well...
After 9 hours we where finally there, Curacao.
The door of the plane opened and I felt the warmth right away!
Got my backpack, and walked out the airport, okay.. there I am.. What now. Of course I smoked my cigarette and chilled for a bit, changed my sweater for a t-shirt and my shoes for flipflops. After sitting there for a while I needed to get into action, so I took a cab and gave him the address of the hostel. He said he knew where it was, but I wasn't sure of that.. We drove around for 35 minutes, so I asked him.. He said he kinda knew.. Okay nice.
Of course my battery was so low my phone almost died, so I didn't had any direction..( yes this is so Ester style (A) ) After a while we drove into a little street which ended at the sea, and I recognized the hostel. I finally made it. There were some people outside, which welcomed me.. and the host and hostess where there too. They showed me my room, which was simple but good enough, and I dropped my stuff. They offered me a beer and after a while my alarm of the previous morning went off.
Okay, that means I was up for 24 hours, so it was time to sleep.
Lucky enough there was a fan at the room, because it was super hot.
The next morning I woke up pretty early, so I went outside and sat at the sea for a little while. I got some breakfast and had a chill morning. After that I walked to Mambo beach, which was +/- 30 minutes, and in the heat it seemed like 60 but aah well, it was a beautiful day. Because I was so excited to lay in the sun and get my tan on, I got burned really bad...
I went back and got some food with the guy that was also in the hostel, Wilfred. We had a chat and then the nightmare began... cockroaches!!
While we where sitting there talking I saw a cockroach flying next to the rooms, yesss they fly!!!! Everyone who knows me, knows I am a pussy about this things so seeing that I ran into the kitchen, demanding Wilfred to kill it... of course he laughed at my reaction, but he chased it away... Then one walked by, and another and to top it all, a big ass crab/lobster walked underneath my chair... of course I couldn't sit there chill so I went to bed... I mean, After Willfred checked my whole room, my shoes, my closed, my drapes and so on. Since that night my bedroom door was always closes when it got dark, no way that one was coming in my room.
The next morning ( I had have dreams about 500 little bugs of course ) I woke up and would meet up with Aggy. She picked me up at 13:00 and we went to Kokomo Beach. We met up with some friends of here and had a chill Wednesday. After the beach we went out to dinner with the same friends.
We went to same place Ronald, me and Floor celebrated my birthday 6 (?) years ago :) Really nice to see so many things that is bringing up memories!
Thursday it was tanning time again of course, so I went to Saint Tropez.
This is a swimming pool, a bit fancy, with a view at the sea. I had a perfect day with my book, Ms. Rose and the sun. When I came back we had a new person who was coming in. His name was Sven. We did some beers together and went to bed after that.
Friday I decided I wanted to rent a car. Nothing wrong with walking, but you just can see a lot more if you have a car. I noticed there was a car rental pretty close to us so I walked there. I came back with the car and we decided to go to Jan Thiel together. This was a really beautiful beach!
Sven and Wilfred went snorkeling, and I took in my favorite spot, in the sun. Well, someone need to watch over the bags right?
After being there the whole day we went back and Ita, the hostess told us about a dance night in Otrabanda. They also had a good deal in a sushi restaurant, so why not. On a good deal in sushi I always say yes ;) Because we had the car it was way easier to get there so this was perfect. We had sushi and watched the locals dance. Like really dance, not like we Dutch people do ;)
After that we also went to a party, which was a big fail (read drunk 16 year old girls all over the place ) so we located to a bar with live music.
The next morning after waking up I went to Cabana Beach, walked around a bit, had a beer ( like every day, it is 5 o'clock somewhere right?! ) I went home on time to also have some time to walk around in Punda.
I brought my book and ended up on a terras, reading a book with a glass of wine, perfect night!
Sunday Sven, me and Wilfred decided to drive the the West Coast and explore the island. We drove around all day and seen a lot of beautiful beaches. At night Wilfred and I went to the beach festival, which means that on all the beaches ( Mambo, Wet & Wild, Cabana ) where parties. At one point I lost Wilfred ( Miss van den Langenberg is well known with this ;) and had a fun night on my own. I went home around 3 and was happy to find my bed..
Monday was the last day on Curacao, wauw that week went fast!! I tried to ate all the left overs I still had in my frigde and made this into a relax and don't do anything day :)
Then, Tuesday.. I needed to pack my backpack but I have been asking myself for a while ; Floor, how did you get all this stuff in there? Really, how? I left my big towel and a short behind because I simply couldn't fit it in. Cor and Ita brought us to the airport ( as Sven also left that morning ) and we where there right on time. I had a little delay, only one hour, but Sven and I waited on the airport together and walked around a bit.
Then it was time to check in, bye bye Curacao, and hellooow Miami.
